Great activities for autumn in Berlin
A city trip in autumn is always a good idea and if it’s to Berlin, it’s even better. The beautiful capital has so much to offer, regardless of whether you want to do something indoors or outdoors.
We have put together a number of excursion tips for you where you can experience the beautiful autumn in Berlin at its best.
Mushroom hike in the Grunewald forest
Autumn time is mushroom time. Berlin’s forests naturally invite you to pick mushrooms. The Grunewald forest is located near our chic boutique hotel and we can highly recommend it to you. Decide for yourself whether you want to join a guided mushroom hike or go picking on your own. Either way, this is a great experience in the fresh air for young and old. But watch out for wild boars, as they love mushrooms and the Grunewald forest in particular.
If you want to warm up a little or it might be raining, we recommend stopping off at the Grunewald hunting lodge. The small café and the castle itself are definitely worth a visit. Some guests may also remember a popular children’s series for which the hunting lodge serves as a backdrop. Do you know which series we’re talking about?
Let’s go to the museum
A visit to a museum is not just a bad weather alternative, but always a good idea. Hardly any other city has such a large selection of exciting museums as Berlin. Take a trip to the famous Museum Island, for example. There you can take a look at Nefertiti in the Neues Museum, among other things.
A special highlight for families with children is the Natural History Museum, where you can meet the famous T-Rex Tristan Otto. History, physics and innovation await you at the Museum of Technology and the associated Spectrum. And if you are interested in country life and historical insights, you should visit the Domäne Dahlem – a fascinating open-air museum and country estate in the south-west of Berlin.
Tip: Admission to mot of the museum is free on the first Sunday of every month!
Zoo and aquarium
We recommend a trip to the zoo and aquarium for families with children. With almost 1,200 species, Berlin Zoo is the most species-rich zoo in the world. From small insects, polar bears and monkeys to giants such as giraffes, elephants and lions, you can marvel at everything the zoo has to offer. There are also a variety of cool playgrounds and a petting zoo to keep the little ones busy in between.
Why not combine your visit to the zoo with a trip to the neighbouring aquarium? Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of fish and reptiles, learn interesting facts and be enchanted by the colours of the animals. The feeding sessions are always a highlight. Who has ever watched sharks or crocodiles being fed?
Botanical Garden
We are happy to reveal another place where autumn in Berlin is particularly beautiful: the Botanical Garden. Stroll through the various themed areas, enjoy the bright colours and be enchanted by Berlin’s autumn. If you bring some patience and nuts with you, you may even be lucky enough to feed squirrels and birds here. Once you are in the Botanical Garden, you should not miss the greenhouses. There you will discover plants from other climate zones and have the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the city in a magical place.
From mid-November, the Botanic Garden also hosts its famous Christmas Garden. The garden is then transformed into a beautiful sea of lights, which you should definitely not miss if you are in Berlin in November or December.
Day trip to Potsdam
Have you ever been to Potsdam? Then it’s high time you did. Just a stone’s throw or a short S-Bahn journey from Berlin you will find Brandenburg’s beautiful capital Potsdam. A city that is often underestimated and has much more to offer than the famous Sanssouci Palace. In Sanssouci Park alone, you will find other palaces and buildings such as the old mill or the Chinese teahouse that are well worth a visit.
The city itself offers a number of other highlights. For example, the beautiful city centre of Potsdam, where you can shop, stroll and feast, the Dutch quarter, the Russian colony Alexandrowka or the famous biosphere. For the film fans among you, we also recommend a visit to Filmpark Babelsberg, where you can discover many a famous film set.
