American football fans, here it is! The National Football League (NFL) is coming to Berlin’s Olympic Stadium on 9 November 2025. Many football enthusiasts from Germany and abroad are expected to attend, bringing the stadium to fever pitch for this special season game on German soil. What is the NFL and why is there a game in Berlin?
The NFL (National Football League) is the highest professional American football league in the United States. It consists of 32 teams and is considered one of the largest and most popular sports leagues in the world. It is particularly well known for the Super Bowl, the annual final game, which is one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
And the NFL in Berlin? The league has been present in Germany since 2022, when the NFL began hosting regular season games in Germany (‘NFL International Games’) to cater to its rapidly growing fan base in Europe. The very first NFL game in Germany took place in Munich in 2022 (Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Seattle Seahawks). After Frankfurt last year, Berlin is finally the venue for this year’s game! Here, too, there are large fan groups, public viewings, fan events and even teams (Berlin Thunder) in the European League of Football (ELF), which is, so to speak, the European version of a football league. The Indianapolis Colts and the Atlanta Falcons will travel to Berlin for a meeting to score the first touchdown in the capital.

First NFL regular season game in Berlin
Date: Sunday, 20 November 2025
Venue: Olympiastadion, Berlin.
Teams: Indianapolis Colts (home team) vs. Atlanta Falcons
Kick-off: 3:30 p.m.
The game not only marks the German capital’s debut as host of a regular NFL game, but is also part of a longer-term collaboration with Berlin. One of the goals is to promote flag football – which is also relevant in view of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Further international NFL games in 2025 (Germany & globally)
The NFL is planning a total of seven international regular season games in five countries for 2025. The game in São Paulo, Brazil, between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers on 5 September 2025 already provided a spectacular start to the season!
Dublin, Ireland: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Minnesota Vikings on 28 September at the Croke Park Studium.
Madrid, Spain: Miami Dolphins vs. Washington Commanders on 16 November 2025 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium – the first NFL game in Spain.
London, UK: Three games already confirmed – for example, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Los Angeles Rams on 19 October 2025.
