Since its closure, the historic former Tempelhof Airport has become Berlin’s largest inner-city green space. Find out more about the Tempelhofer Feld on our blog in this article.
The Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin
Berliners and visitors to the city meet in front of the monumental airport building and enjoy the space and wind. The former runways offer plenty of space for outdoor activities. Here you can cycle, skate, stroll, barbecue and chill. A unique adventure area in the centre of the Berlin metropolis.
Recently, the grassy areas have been given animal care. Rare Skudden cattle and old breeds of cattle and horses keep the vegetation short and the views open.
A history trail with numbered information boards guides you across the entire site and tells you a lot about the military and civilian history of Tempelhofer Feld.

Our top 5 most beautiful cycling tours in and around Berlin
Now that it’s (really) getting warmer, it’s finally time to get outside again. When spring comes to Berlin, the wonderful capital shows its most beautiful side again. One of the best ways to explore Berlin is by bike. We show you five great bike tours in and around Berlin. From sightseeing to history to wonderful nature, there’s a bit of everything.
1. Berlin Wall Trail – the classical route
Whether on foot or by bike – the Berlin Wall Trail is a real classic. Where the Wall once stood is now one of the capital’s most popular hiking and cycling trails. If you want to cycle the entire route, you should allow around 11 hours to complete the 159 km trail. If this is too far for you, you can also opt for individual stages. For those who like it lively, we recommend the section along the Eastside Gallery in the heart of the city. For nature lovers, the section in the south from Sonnenallee via Schönefeld to Lichtenrade or from Hennigsdorf via Hohen Neuendorf to Hermsdorf are particularly suitable.
Route length: 159 km Duration: 10:22 h
2. From the zoo to Alexanderplatz – the sightseeing tour
What would a vacation in Berlin be without a little sightseeing tour? In good weather, you can do this perfectly by bike. You start at our hotel, cycle along the famous Ku’damm and make a detour to the green oasis that is Berlin’s Tiergarten. From there, you will reach the famous Victory Column and the iconic Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag. There you can decide whether you want to turn off to Potsdamer Platz or continue towards Alexanderplatz past the cathedral, the City Palace and Museum Island. No matter which option you choose, there is definitely a lot to see on this tour.
Route length: approx. 9 km Duration: 40 minutes (without stops)
A little tip: In bad weather, you can also cover the route on the bus number 100. The bus passes almost all of Berlin’s major sights without a tourist surcharge.
3. Cycling tours around the Müggelsee – off to the south of Berlin
Berlin is known for its forests and lakes. They invite vacationers and Berliners to relax, explore and enjoy. The Müggelsee in beautiful Köpenick is one of Berlin’s largest lakes and a popular destination for excursions. The best way to get there is to take the S-Bahn to Friedrichshagen. From there, take the small promenade towards the lake. The Spree tunnel takes you to the other side, where you can cycle along the shore around the lake. In Rübezahl, you can take a short detour to the Müggelturm tower or continue directly towards Kleiner Müggelsee. If you wish, you can take a break here and go on a short boat trip or simply relax on the beach. The route continues through dreamy Klein Venedig and then via Wilhelmshagen and Rahnsdorf back to Friedrichshagen S-Bahn station. The almost 20 km long route is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cycle tours through Berlin.
Route length: 20.3 km Duration: 01:10 h
4. To the lakes in Zehlendorf – the tour for bathing enthusiasts & water lovers
Not only Köpenick has beautiful lakes, also Charlottenburg and Zehlendorf are also really well positioned in this respect. Our fourth cycle tour through Berlin takes you from the hotel via the less busy end of the Ku’damm past a number of lakes to the beautiful Wannsee. Along the way, you will pass Halensee, Herthasee, Königssee, Dianasee, Hundekehlesee, Grunewaldsee, Krummen Lanke and Schlachtensee. Take a break for a swim or stop off at one of the delicious restaurants along the way. When you arrive at Wannsee after almost 20 km, you could consider a steamboat ride or simply take the S-Bahn back in comfort.
Route length: 27.1 km Duration: 01:45 h
Tip for dog lovers: If you take your beloved dog with you on the tour, we recommend a stopover at Grunewaldsee. This is located in the dog walking area and is a true paradise for four-legged friends!
